Mahogany - The Original Brick House

Mahogany - The Original Brick House

Regular price $225.00 Sale!

In the earliest days of Calavera, there was this beast of an apron. We called it, simply... The Mahogany. And until recently, we haven't made one in many years.

And why did it disappear? Well, gorgeous though it was, this thing was a monster... a good 25-30% thicker than any other apron we make. But weight wasn't the issue. No, it's that out of the box, this thing is super stiff out of the box, with some serious breaking in ahead of it. You have to want to make this thing yours.

And 7-8 years ago, we were still figuring out how to explain the basics of leather work apron glory. And The Mahogany is advanced class.

To be clear, The Mahogany is as beautiful and comfortable an apron as we've ever made. But we're only gonna make a handful of em as a numbered series (thinking maybe a dozen). So you've got some decisions to make. And quickly.

Features Vintagized Brass and super-heavyweight Cream Thread as standard options.

About the goods...

Tough, veg-tanned leather work apron that'll start a little stiff, but break in quickly for a perfect fit. Though all our Work Aprons are built to endure years of hard work, the Mahogany has got just a little extra meat on its bones, if you'll pardon the expression, and is ready to suffer whatever extra special punishment you might dish out. Calavera Work Aprons feature 3 hard-wearing, adjustable strap options made from the toughest bridle leather we could find.

Main Panel: Veg Tan Mahogany
Thickness: 6-6.5oz whole hide leather
Front pocket: Mahogany
Back Pocket: Mahogany
D-tabs: Mahogany
Straps: Mahogany

Pocket Options

Streamlined Plain Front: This is the classic Calavera style... no muss, no fuss. Still, all aprons come with a standard-issue upper pocket for pens, pencils, small rulers and such.
Lower Pocket (with or without flap): A traditional rectangular pocket style that hews tight to the main apron panel to prevent accumulation of dust and debris, with or without the inclusion of the optional upper flap.
Paolini Pocket: Generously sized, side-entry pouch design prevents dust and debris from collecting, without the need for flaps. If we were going to rock the pocket, this would be our choice. Named after Gregory Paolini, who is a fantastic woodworker and teacher, as well as one of our favorite human beings.

Strap options
  • X-Back: For an incredibly comfortable fit, choose the adjustable 1" harness-style straps with quick-release.
  • Y-Back: Combines the comfort of the harness style straps with a sturdy, adjustable belt for a perfect, secure fit. We strongly endorse the Y-Back.

Positioning - Tape Measure Clips and/or Towel Rings

Apron w/ Paolini Pocket - Upper positioning will be on the front of the pocket, near the top. Lower positioning will be on the front of the pocket. See gallery for visual.

A note on caring for your work apron

In the shop, we finish all our work aprons with Dr. Jackson's Conditioning Cream. A modest application will do good things to worn or dry areas. For hotter, dryer regions (or applications), we recommend modest doses of Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner with Beeswax. Don't apply too much or it'll get a little sticky.
