I didn't grow up around leatherwork. But my mom taught me the basics of sewing and inspired me to lean in to my creativity. Though it took a good twenty years of corporate to finally break free and discover the glory of creating and making, I'm here now. And there's nothing about it I don't appreciate.
So when I come across a fellow maker such as John Pryor of Madison Stitch, I find myself a little proud. You see, John is this incredible designer and hands-on leatherworker himself. His current work includes runway events built around his own line of high fashion, including among other things, dresses made from wood, leather and other unexpected materials. Truly exceptional work, by any standard.
Oh, and a huge part of this... there's hardly a picture of him where he's not rocking his very own Calavera Work Apron. And that's wherein lies the pride, I guess you could say. A guy who could so easily design and produce an apron of his own creation to his own specifications... wearing something that came from my own mind and from my own hands.
Pretty good feeling. By any standard.
